How to make Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
After 17 years of marriage you would think that we would have lots of family traditions but our main tradition is good food, using great family recipes, with as minimal time to the cook as possible. We all want to hang out on our holidays and spending less time standing over a hot stove is such a better way to spend the day.
Last year, for example, I picked up a turkey already prepared and simply added my side dishes, rolls and drinks. This year I am doing the exact same thing; peppering old family favorites with minimal prep and kitchen time.
And our favorite no fuss, no mess, come back for more recipe? Slow Cooker mashed potatoes, flowing gravy and plenty of rolls to dip with! The thing about mashed potatoes is that they can seem to take forever with the cleaning, the boiling, the cutting and the mashing.
But did you know that you can make mashed potatoes in a slow cooker? These save time potatoes are perfectly creamy, easily adjustable and make the most flawless side dish without all the hassle of pre-boiling.
In fact, these potatoes are so good that you can almost skip the main course and go right to all the extras!
In our house, we revel in using our delicious rolls to dip in ALL the side dishes.
From potatoes to gravy, even green beans and cranberries, its a household tradition to use the last roll to clean the plate! I can remember, even as a little girl, my dad and grandma both using the last bites to clean the plate with.
Ever since then, I have passed that down to my own kids!

How to make Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
Let’s get started on making your slow cooker mash! First, cut your potatoes into chunks. You do not need to peel them at all, but that choice is yours.
COOKING TIP: I love keeping the skins on because they provide extra flavor and texture as well as look appealing!
Add your potatoes, chicken broth and seasonings into a slow cooker.
Cover.
Put slow cooker on high for approximately 3 hours. You need to watch your slow cooker as some cook faster and the smaller your potato chunks, the faster it cooks. I check mine at 2 hours and make sure I still have enough liquid in the slow cooker.
Feel free to add more, it will not hurt the recipe.
Once done, mash up your potatoes with a manual masher.
Now add butter and a 1/2 cup of sour cream and mix well.
You are ready to eat.

How to Eat Slow Cooker Mashed potatoes
Now listen carefully because this is super important.
This mashed potatoe recipe is easy peasy and should absolutely be on your list this year when cooking.
That being said, do not eat them with a spoon! That is a travesty! It’s an absolute must to smother in your favorites, like butter, Gouda or sour cream and then use your rolls to dip right into and enjoy! Our favorite rolls? Sister Schubert’s Dinner Yeast Rolls!
These are restaurant quality, perfectly golden rolls that are soft and delicious. The best part is that they are frozen to naturally preserve the homemade taste of real ingredients and you finish them off at home for a true home baked experience.
Cutting corners does NOT mean cutting flavor!
TIP: Front and center, make sure you add a basket on each end of the table because no one wants to wait to pass it around. Plus, grab an extra bag while you are at Walmart and use them for sandwiches. They sure make having left over turkey worth it when you take a bite!
In the interesting of taste testing, I ate 7 of them while taking pictures so I know what I am talking about.
With my kids growing older and onward, I never know what our holidays will look like. Sometimes we are all at the table together and some times we are spread apart at different homes with friends and family. But the one thing I can always count on is food bringing us all together.
Traditions are homemade!
