Beignet recipe with Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix

Make your own beignets with this oh so easy beignet recipe using Cafe Du Monde beignet mix or use my homemade version below. Doused in powdered sugar, these perfect crunch on the outside, soft on the inside fried doughnuts are perfection year round even when we can’t always get to New Orleans. And no matter whether you take the short cut or the long way around, the results are worth it.

Beignets

It’s Mardi Gras time around here and you know what that means- balls, parades, and an excuse to eat beignets! Trust me, I would rather be eating French Quarter beignets but since I cannot run the three hours to NOLA every week (and presumably neither can you), I wanted to share some simple beignets (also known as French doughnuts) that taste like you’re in the french quarter but without the hangover.

To celebrate the holiday, these are Mardi Gras Beignets (with green, gold, and purple sugar) but you can enjoy these year round with a sprinkle of any powered sugar.

You do not have to be a native to enjoy the pillowy soft piles of fried dough and sugary goodness we call beignets.

Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix

Cafe Dumonde Beignet Mix 28 oz (Pack of Two)Cafe Dumonde Beignet Mix 28 oz (Pack of Two)First let’s talk about beignet mix.

Mix is one way to do it and it’s totally fine and honestly quite delicious. You can pick up Cafe Du Monde New Orleans Beignet mix right here if you prefer to do it the quick way. Just create and add your sugar. The mix is AMAZING and I buy it constantly.

They sell it in the stores around here but if you don’t live in a place where this type of cuisine is normal, you can grab an inexpensive mix right on Amazon.

Although it’s not homemade in the same sense, it really is fantastic.

If you have never been to Cafe Du Monde, they serve one order (3 beignets) with Cafe Au Lait and it hits the spot the same at 12pm or 3am.

<—————This is the ONLY BEIGNET MIX you should buy if you are going to not make a homemade recipe like below.

So fun for a party, a breakfast, or a snack, here is a homemade beignet recipe that will have you saying MORE MORE MORE and taste just like you stood in line all night at the infamous Cafe Du Monde or Cafe Beignet.

The second option is to make them homemade!

Mix water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl and let sit for 10 minutes.

In another bowl, beat the eggs, salt and evaporated milk together.

Mix egg mixture to the yeast mixture. In a separate bowl, measure out the bread flour.

Add 3 cups of the flour to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

Add the shortening and continue to stir while adding the remaining flour.

Remove dough from the bowl, place onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.

Spray a large bowl with nonstick spray.

Put dough into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a towel.

Let rise in a warm place for at least 2 hours. Can refrigerate at this point or proceed with recipe.

Preheat oil in a deep-fryer to 350 degrees F.

Roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into 3-inch squares.

Deep-fry, flipping constantly, until they become a golden color.

After beignets are fried, drain them for a few seconds on paper towels.

While the dough is frying, mix each color of food dye into 1 cup of powdered sugar.

Using a mesh sieve, sprinkle each color of colored powdered sugar over the beignets while still hot.
