- 3-4 cups icing sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Cream the butter and sugar together with a mixer until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Add in the eggs and vanilla.
In a separate bowl, stir together the flour and baking powder and then slowly add it to the sugar-butter mixture.
Once all of the flour is incorporated into the dough, form into a ball and cover with plastic wrap.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting into trees.
Bake on a lined baking sheet at 350F for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
Remove your cookies to a cooling rack after two minutes.
Homemade Buttercream Icing Recipe
Place softened butter into a bowl and beat in 2 cups of icing sugar.
Add 2 Tablespoons heavy cream and vanilla.
Add remaining icing sugar 1/2 cup at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
Spoon the frosting into a piping bag and make a small cut to form a small opening for the frosting to make thick, but controlled lines.
Add the frosting to the cookie in a zig-zag pattern and attach the decorative candies.
