The school year is nearly ended! The kids have plenty of assemblies, field days, and today, an awards ceremony filling up their end of the calendar before summer lets out next week. And while at the awards ceremony today there was a public speaker talking to the 5th graders all about character.
What it means to be a good person, to go above and beyond for people, and how those around us influence on a daily basis. Charlotte was there to get an award actually. She was being recognized for being one of the kids in the school that had a “crown of character” which was basically a child that went out of their way to be helpful or kind. While the motivational speaker was wrapping up, he made it a point to ask the students to spend today thanking someone.
Thank a teacher who selflessly works in a career field with no other reward than the kids it teachers, thank a parent who raises you and drives you, thank a friend who loves and supports you. He even had everyone turn to the side and thank the person next to them- which by the way incited tons of giggles from the kids.
(Btw, you can do this virtually here on this link!)
I found it all very fitting because today I am telling you about this really great new book (I partnered with @disneybooks to share this info) where you can pick up to influence your kids and family about thanking those around them. The Thank You Book by Mo Willems (by Disney Hyperion) has been available since May 3rd and is a great reminder to ALL of us.
It doesn’t matter your age, it doesn’t matter what you do for a living, it doesn’t matter if you are big or small- everyone should be appreciating those around them on a daily basis.
