Clear Rainbow Slime Tutorial

Now I have made rainbow slime before on MomDot. In fact, depending on how you look at it, Unicorn poop slime and rainbow explosion slime can also be considered a rainbow of sorts. The one main difference in this recipe and other recipes, is that we are using clear glue instead of white, which gives a really sheer and almost ethereal look to the slime.

Before you get started, you need to know this. Clear glue is notoriously harder to mix than white glue. That means when making this slime, you will need double and often triple the amount of starch that you use for your white glue recipes.

Clear Rainbow Slime Ingredients

NOTE BEFORE WE GET STARTED: First when it comes to slime, please know that it’s a science project. It shouldn’t be done with really tiny children or kids that put things in their mouths. Maybe goop or dyed spaghetti is better for the little’s. At the end of the day, slime is a fun project but also one that you should create with caution.

Supplies are paramount! Being prepared is a must before any project as getting half way in between and realize you are missing something is un-fun. I also recommend these supplies because its what I do to create such pretty slime, so I wouldn’t say use any substitutes for this unless you are really experienced. Personally,  I buy all my supplies on Amazon for a few reasons. One, finding this stuff, while not uncommon materials, can be super hard. Glue, and this clear glue in particular, is in a shortage everywhere due to kids making slime! Liquid starch is also not at every store. I also have done some experiments and the colorant I listed below is hands down the best for projects where you want some color pop.

You still need the traditional slime ingredients. For us, that is a Gallon of Clear Glue, Liquid Starch and food dye.

  •  I always use GALLON SIZED GLUE. If the clear gallon is out, you can grab it in smaller bottles if need be
  • Liquid Starch – This can be impossible to find, so also better to grab online, it lasts a long while too
  • Food coloring I use Wilton’s Color Right for the best and brightest results- a lot of colorants can thin out your slime and this doesn’t

Clear Rainbow Slime Instructions

To create this rainbow slime, you will need to do the same thing as always- mix your glue and your starch. The thing about clear glue is that you need more starch than normal. I am not giving exact measurements because it mostly depends on how much slime you want to make. We typically pour in about a cup of glue, then add your colorant, and then a cup of starch when it comes to clear glue.  See below – this is the ONLY colorant we use because its super bright.

Separate and create all the colors of the rainbow. Then add your slime one color at a time side by side (move quickly so it doesn’t blend) into a bowl like we did. See below.

Remember, after playing awhile, the colors WILL mix into typically a blue or purple color. There is no way to keep these colors separate.
