How to Make Slime (No Borax)

So you have tried tons of slime recipes and they keep coming out too hard or too gooey and not just right? Introducing the PERFECT SLIME EVERY TIME Recipe, a no fail way to create slime and enjoy the fun benefits of sensory slime any time you are ready to get down and dirty with your kids.  Here on MomDot, we have experimented with it all: from borax to starch and everything in between and hands down, while slime does need some creativity, this is the best way I can teach you to create slime that works.

NOTE: First when it comes to slime, please know that its a science project. It shouldn’t be done with really tiny children or kids that put things in their mouths. Maybe goop or dyed spaghetti is better for the little’s. At the end of the day, slime is a fun project but also one that you should create with caution.

How to Make Slime

Before we get started you will need a few ingredients for your slime. For us, that is a Gallon of Elmer’s Glue, Liquid Starch, a colorant (I prefer Wilton’s Food Coloring) and for this, the additive that makes fluffy slime work, extra moisturizing shaving cream. Here is a list of items you will need for your fluffy slime recipe. This unicorn poop fluffy slime is made with liquid starch.

  • White school glue – I always use GALLON SIZED GLUE. Tiny bottles do not produce a lot of slime and this is an addicting project. Go ahead and get the gallon size. You cannot find this in stores.
  • Liquid Starch – This can also be impossible to find, so I always grab a bottle when I order glue
  • Food coloring – I use Wilton’s Color Right for the best and brightest results like this hot pink

SLIME RECIPE

All this talk on fluffy slime. While I love fluffy slime, this is not it. This is your traditional awesome slime recipe. If you want to make fluffy slime, you can alter this recipe by visiting HERE and then see what to add. As far as creating slime, there is right or wrong way. It literally depends on your glue to starch ratio.  I start with about 2 cups of glue per color so its nice and thick. Then I add colorant like this hot pink and stir till I get what color I am going for. You will want to do this part with a spoon because the dye will get all over your hands.

Now its time to take your pretty glue and make it into slime! That happens when you introduce liquid starch to the mix. Pour in approximately 1/3 liquid starch and stir till it starts to combine. Then you will need to KNEED it like dough to thicken it up. If the slime is stills ticking to your hands, it needs more starch.

Add a bit at a time and knead until it forms and stops sticking to your hands. This will take about 3 minutes, maybe longer depending on how big of a batch of slime you need.
