Since my kids are all in school during the day, it’s not often that I find myself taking them grocery shopping with me. When by myself, I take a little more time to price check, read ingredients, compare items, and look for healthy options. But with kids in tow, I usually just grab the items on my list from known preferences and brands to exit the store as quickly as I can. With Spring Break last week, it kind of felt like an “adventurous outing” to go to the store with my kids. Funny how I used to dream of going shopping without them, and now it feels like a bit of fun.
Young’s Seafood asked me to create a recipe using one of their products. I had in mind that I’d try the Cod, even though we haven’t had many opportunities to try Cod. Or maybe it’s because we haven’t had many opportunities, actually. I suppose I was thinking of branching out at bit. While walking through the frozen fish aisle, looking for Young’s Traditional British Crispy Battered Cod Fillets, my kids stopped dead in their tracks. “Mom, look how cool those fish sticks are! They’re shaped like fish!” I have to admit, they did look pretty adorable. “Mom, can we try these instead?”
While we have traveled many places within the United States, we’ve never made it to the U.K. However, that doesn’t mean that their reputation hasn’t preceded them when it comes to their seafood. While we don’t have current plans to visit the U.K., I have always known that if we were to fly across the “Pond,” I’d order Fish and Chips. I was pleasantly surprised to read that Young’s Seafood has “authentic tastes of the British Chip Shop.” This intrigued me, that word “authentic.” Reading on, I was also impressed that Young’s Seafood has a 200 year heritage. That’s a raving review in itself, bringing food to the masses for that long.
I usually try to alternate between different categories throughout the week, like: Beef, Chicken, Pork, Pasta, Soup, Casserole, Meatless, or even Breakfast, so I was excited to try something from the sea, something my kids would be excited to experience. And it did cross my mind, “something I know they would all eat without complaint.” What child would complain when served delicious fish shaped like a fish?!
I’m happy to report that the kids LOVED Young’s Flipper Dippers! Shelby (11) said, “I think they taste better because they’re shaped like fish!” Mouths full, the others nodded their agreement. Mom Trusted, Kid Approved!! I’m thinking we’ll try the Cod next! It’s not often that we eat frozen, since I like to make as many fresh meals as I can, but with the ease and quality of these Flipper Dippers, I know that we’ll love the other options as well for those nights that I’m seriously too tired. After all, with 200 years of experience, they’re bound to know a thing or two about seafood, am I right?!
TANGY TARTAR DIPPING SAUCE
We’re a sauce loving family. For most things, ketchup is our go-to. But for seafood– Tartar Sauce all the way, baby! This recipe uses only three ingredients, but it packs a tangy punch that pairs perfectly with these Flipper Dippers.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/2 cup mayo
- 1/4 cup relish
- 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
Prepare yourself for tangy perfection! Our recipe uses more relish than most, which we think tastes better. Creamy mayonnaise, tangy lemon juice, and the crunch of extra relish, this Tangy Tartar Dipping Sauce produces a perfect blend of both taste and texture.
