I love beautiful desserts and this unicorn poop cake is no exception. With a smattering of purple and pink frosting and a heavy does of delicious blue melting chocolates, this is one gorgeous cake that will be the center of attention for any Unicorn or Princess themed parties.

This cake is surprisingly easy to make with a funfetti layered center and a mix of homemade frosting, but the real beauty comes from the decorating, of which you will need to be a bit patient for and have the right frosting tips for the best success.

BEFORE YOU START MAKING YOUR CAKE READ THIS

Before you get started, its best to be prepared. I love buying my non-perishables on Amazon so I can fill up the pantry but even more, you MUST have star tips and the Wilton color right dye. I use this dye for pretty much all desserts and crafts because it consistently produces the best colors. I highly recommend keeping a set in your pantry!

Ingredients:
Directions to make a Unicorn Poop Cake:
Preheat oven to 325F. Prepare two 9″ cake pans by greasing and lining.
Prepare the cake mix according to box directions. Divide the batter into 4 bowls and dye each with one of the food dyes.
Divide the teal-colored batter into the center of each cake pan. Then, add half of the purple-dyed cake batter to the center of the teal batter in one pan, and then the other.
Repeat with the pink and orange batters.
Let the cake batter spread out slowly to the ends of the pan and then place in the oven and cook according to package instructions, until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool as you prepare the frosting.

Place the butter, 4 cups of icing sugar, 2 Tablespoons of milk or cream and vanilla extract in a large bowl and beat until well-incorporated. Taste and adjust the consistency as needed with additional icing sugar and/or cream.
Remove 2 cups of the buttercream to a separate bowl and dye it purple.
Dye the remaining buttercream pink.
Place one layer of the cake on your cake pedestal or serving tray and add half of the purple buttercream. Smooth down and sandwich the second layer overtop. Fill in any gaps on the side of the cake with a bit more of the purple frosting.

Give the cake a quick crumb coat using the pink frosting and let dry for at least 30 minutes.
Add a second, thick coat of the pink frosting and then add dollops of purple frosting all over.
Using an offset spatula, smooth the frosting to make a pretty tie-dye effect.
Place the blue candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds, stir, and reheat as necessary. Add the shortening to make it runnier. Let cool but not harden.
Half a teaspoon at a time, place a spoon with a bit of the candy melts on the edge of the cake and let it drip down. Repeat all around the outside of the cake. Let dry.
